How To: Bleed Your Brakes (RRGS Caliper)

Much like a car, it’s important to bleed your brakes purging your system of air bubbles.  This will help to avoid soft and spongy braking to help you keep control.  For this, we recommend having a helper to assist in squeezing the brake lever(s) at your command.  Also, due to the position and location of the parts, we advise taking the caliper off the rotor and using a metal bar which we’ll show how we did it.

Tools Needed:

  • Allen tools
  • 7mm wrench

Materials Needed:

  • Brake Fluid
  • Zip ties
  • Metal bar 3mm thick

Recommendations:

  • Bribe or hire a friend to help
  • Remove the caliper from the rotor
  1. Take off the RRGS brake caliper using the Allen tool
  2. Insert the metal bar and keep it in position using a zip tie
  3. Make sure the banjo bolt is at an angle and not covering the hole right above it
  4. Unscrew the cap to the master cylinder and pour brake fluid into it.
  5. If the brake line is new, pump the brake until pressure builds up.
  6. Cover the nipple with your finger while pumping the brake so air doesn’t go in
  7. While pumping the brake, make sure there is always brake fluid in the master cylinder
  8. Tighten and loosen the nipple when needed to let the brake fluid go through the line
  9. Keep pumping the brake until it is hard to pull
  10. Tighten the nipple
  11. Cut off the zip ties and remove the metal bar
  12. Mount the caliper back into position
