DROWsports Grom Build: Part 3

4 Hour Race Prep

The M1GP 4 Hour endurance race is coming up and I wanted to compete in it.  The only real way to get track experience is to do it.  This is going to be the first time racing on two wheels and first time running the Grom.

I decided to switch from my Power Commander V to Bazzaz ZFI.  There was nothing wrong with the PCV, I just wanted to try out the Bazzaz unit.

Running the Bazzaz Self Tuning or aka autotune, I needed to weld an O2 bung on the exhaust. Here is where the Yoshimura backup exhaust comes in. Sorry for the messy welds, I need more practice. (I’m not going to weld the Akrapovic titanium)

Dyno Testing for Bazzaz

Bazzaz is not a plug and plays kit, some writing and dyno time is needed before you can ride.

M1GP was throwing a 4Hr endurance race at Willow Spring Kart Track. The Fastest way to learn what it takes to complete an endurance race was to enter in one. Building a track ready bike requires a few different upgrades. Motion Pro REV2 Quick Throttle for faster wot action. Motion Pro Start/Kill Switch, 36T rear Sprocket, Custom Titanium Sprocket Nuts, Headlight Delete Number Plate, EBC front and rear brake pads and Over Racing Handlebar Clamp.

Track bikes require number plates to race. Removing the headlight will also save and eliminating the chance of damaging the headlight in a crash.

Tracks might require race functional switches. We wired up the switch to plug into the factory harness.

Cable Lubrication!

Pre-lubing the throttle cable to reduce cable binding.

With the maximum speed of 50-55mph, I didn’t think we need a steering damper anymore plus with and we use the extra weight saving.
36t rear sprocket with custom-made Titanium sprocket nut. We had to put a little heat on the nuts to get the nice purple/blue color.
