Are you ready for Socal Super Sunday?

With only a few weeks remaining, enthusiasts are finishing up their rides that range from 50cc Ruckus’ to 1000cc ZX10s and more for So-Cal Super Sunday. As always, the route will be long and you’ll need to be prepared because you don’t want to be that guy on the Japanese magazine pictured stuck on the side of the road. It’s meant for riders of all ages, types, and experiences but even the most experienced rider can’t be too prepared and let’s start with you as the rider.

First thing is always wear your full gear; this should be obvious for anytime you ride but the extra-long distance of Super Sunday requires it. Boots, riding jacket, helmet, riding goggles or glasses, gloves, and long pants will protect you should the worst case happen. You should be prepared for changing weather; the early morning will be cold, the ride will get hot, the trip home will be cold again. You’ll want to bring along a bottle or two of water in order to keep yourself hydrated. Don’t be afraid to bring along something to eat during the ride. Being hungry on a long ride is not a comfortable feeling. Bring cash as, while most places will take credit or debit cards, you never know if you make an emergency stop that ends up somewhere that doesn’t take either.

Bringing a GPS is more than a way to brag about who was the fastest that day. If you’re unfamiliar with the places Super Sunday will take you, it will be a life saver if you get lost. Be sure you mount it on a reliable dock or use a RAM Mount. To help ease that unfamiliar feeling of the unknown route, ride in a group by connecting with your favorite shop or people on the forums. Riding in a group will also help if you do break down as they will stay with you and assist you in repairs.

If you are planning to upgrade your scooter or bike, do it now or wait until after Super Sunday as you’ll want your bike running reliably and consistently. You’ll want to bring along an extra CVT belt, especially if yours is prone to breaking on long rides. Be sure to bring the hand tools required to change that belt. For you two-stroke riders, bring plenty of premix oil and it won’t hurt to bring more than you think you’ll need. Bring other spare parts that you can fit on your bike securely or in your storage that will keep you riding your bike safely. So, bring extra bolts, nuts, oil, fluids, and other essentials that could potentially fail on your bike. Also consider zip-ties and lock wire as essential for emergency repairs.

Always double check!

Before you head out, always go over your bike. Look for things like loose nuts and bolts, low fluids, worn brakes, and check your starter battery for proper voltage. Look over your gear for damage, tears, and holes and replace what’s no longer safe. Check the registration and insurance on your bike and make sure they are up to date. Finally, if you intend on getting video of your ride, check your GoPro or RePlay and make sure you have enough room on your memory card for the entire day and that their batteries are fully charged.

So-Cal Super Sunday is meant to be fun, exciting, and rewarding as a rider. While you don’t have to ride the entire time, you shouldn’t end up on the support truck because you went unprepared. Be safe, have fun, and smile for the camera guy!
