I picked up my Grom back in late 2013 and have been slowly building and testing out parts on it. At first, I didn’t know which direction I wanted to go with the build. It was such a fun bike to ride that stretching and slamming it was not going to be an option. So I decided to just slowly build it and test out new parts as I go. I think it’s about time for me to post my build. Here is the first part of the build, pretty basic stuff.
Parts List:
- Renthal Fatbar
- CRG LS3″ Folding Mirror
- ProGrip Handlebar Grips
- RaceTech Spring Kit and Gold Valves
- Ohlins Rear Shock
- Drive Rearsets
- Yoshimura Full System (track & dyno tuning)
- Akrapovic Full Titanium System
- UNI Pod Filter
- DynoJet Power Commander V
- Goodridge Black Stainless Steel Brake Lines
- PSR Black Brake & Clutch Lever
- Drowsports Grom Rear Fender Delete
- JT 14T Front Sprocket
- Honda TDM Projector Headlight
- LED Tail Light with built-in signal
- Dunlop TT92 and TT93
The first mod was the CRG 3″ LS folding mirrors and then upgrading the brake lines to stainless steel lines. The lines made a big improvement on lever feel and they also look a lot cleaner.
Next, I had to replace the factory bars. I went with a Renthal Fatbar (28.8mm) because I like the way it looks.
Going with a bigger bar requires a bar adaptor. PSR black brake and clutch levers with ProGrip handlebar grips were added.
After riding it for a while, I needed to beef up the front end with RaceTech Springs with Gold Valves. I also wanted to upgrade the rear shocks to Ohlins and install some adjustable Driven Rearsets.
The Driven Rearsets changed the whole feel of the bike and are also very adjustable. The Ohlins is pretty cool too.

A GPR Steering Damper was added for high-speed stability.
The Yoshimura Full System was one of the first exhaust systems available for the Grom at the time.
Here is a shot of our Drowsports Honda Grom rear fender delete license plate bracket. There are no turn signals or license plate lights mounted on the bracket, which makes it easy to remove for track and off-road usage. At the time, Ohlins only offered a single damping adjustable shock; now they have a rebound and compression adjustable shock.
I never really liked the way the Yoshimura looked or sounded. I needed to upgrade the exhaust and kept the Yoshimura for testing and tracking. I’ve been eyeing the Akrapovic Grom Full Titanium System for a while; it’s about time I bit the bullet and got it.
I always felt Akrapovic makes the best looking and sounding exhaust systems for bikes and cars.

The Akrapovic exhaust is a little too loud for me with the quiet tip.
Is there anything else you would like to adjust or add?
