FZ09 LED Sequential Tail Light

A perfect way to get that custom look and feel on your bike is to swap out your stock tail light. In this guide, we will show you how to install the FZ09 LED Tail Light with easy step-by-step instructions.

We understand how frustrating and time consuming it can be to install a part that you aren’t particularly familiar with. Additionally, we know how overwhelming it can be when you have no idea where to start. The FZ09 LED Sequential Tail Light  is a complete kit that includes all the necessary hardware for the installation. However, there may be some additional cutting or grinding to ensure a perfect fit onto your bike. Similar to the DROWsports R6 LED Tail Light, these lights offer customization of the LED to your liking.

Installation Time: 1-2 Hours 

  • Drilling and Wiring Required

Tools Required:

  • Drill Driver
  • 1/8” Drill Bit
  • 10mm Socket and Ratchet
  • 5mm Standard Hex Key 
  • Wire Stripper & Crimper
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Black Electrical Tape

1 = FZ09 Tail Light with Integrated Turn Signals
1 = DROWsports FZ09 Tail Light Bracket
1 = Resistor Pack
2 = M6 Stainless Steel Bolts
2 = M6 Stainless Steel Washer
2 = M6 Lock Washer
2 = M6 Flange Nut
9 = Male Crimp-on Bullet Connectors
3 = Pan Head Screws, Bracket Mounting
1 = Spade Crimp-on Terminals

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Remove the seat from the rear frame. 

2. Trim off the excess plastic until it is fully flushed as seen in Figure 1.1

    1. This can be done using a handsaw or air saw

3. Once the headlight is fully flushed, mount the FZ09 Tail Light on to the DROWsports FZ09 Tail Light Bracket using the two M6 Stainless Steel Bolts

4. Place the FZ09 Tail Light on the seat and center it.

5. Using the bracket as a template, mark the three holes on the seat (Figure 1.3)

6. Drill three 1/8″ pilot holes for the mounting screws (Figure 1.4). Please take your time and do this right to ensure that the holes are aligned and spaced out correctly. If they are not, it will be difficult to fix the error. 

7. Mount the tail light onto the seat using the three mounting screws (Figure 1.5)Simply Easy Learning   

8. Once this is all finished, you can now mount the seat back onto the seat frame (Figure 1.7).

9. Install the Male Crimp-on Bullet Connectors on the tail light

    1. Strip off ½ of the wire insulation
    2. Twist and fold each wire to make it thicker
    3. Crimp each wire

10. Plug the FZ09 Tail Light into the Ruckus Tail Light Harness

  • Ruckus Light Blue = Blue Tail Light
  • Ruckus Orange = Yellow Tail Light
  • Ruckus Green/Yellow = White Tail Light
  • Ruckus Green/Black = Black Tail Light
  • Ruckus Black Brown = Red Tail Light

11. Install the Crimp-on Connectors to the Resistor Pack

    1. Male Connectors on the side with four wires
    2. Spade Terminal Crimp-on the black ground wires. (Joint the two black wires together)

Simply Easy Learning12. Plug the Resistor Pack to the Ruckus Wire Harness in the Battery Box

    1. Male Connector plugs into the Main Harness
    2. Spade Terminal hooks into a ground on the chassis
    3. Female Connectors plugs to the front turn signals. Be sure to tape up the female connectors with Black Electrical Tape. (Figure 1.13)

13. Test and make sure all the brakes and turn signal works before putting everything back on.

FZ09 LED Light Wiring:

Ruckus Light Blue = Blue Tail Light = Right Turn Signal

Ruckus Orange = Yellow Tail Light = Left Turn Signal

Ruckus Green/Yellow = White Tail Light = Brake Light

Ruckus Green/Black = Black Tail Light = Ground

Ruckus Black/Brown = Red Tail Light = Power

 

Resistor Pack:

Black to Ground

Note: When using front LED signals, flasher relay must be replaced with aftermarket LED flasher relay.

Troubleshooting:

If the brake lights do not activate, try swapping the red wire and white wire connection.
